Kingsburgh Welfare plans beyond Christmas

Instead of having our usual party, we plan to sustain our families over the festive season.

Due to its dire financial situation, Kingsburgh Child Welfare has not planned a Christmas party this year, but it instead plans to prioritise the needs of families it serves.

“Kingsburgh Child and Family Welfare places on record that our planning for our children’s activities over the Christmas period has changed this year,” said chairman, Jenny Smith.

“Instead of having our usual party, we plan to sustain our families over the festive season, providing them with goods to sustain them into the new year. For many it has been a difficult year financially and prospects in the new year are uncertain. The families and children we serve will be provided with food parcels, gifts for the children, as well as school stationery items.

We are bound by the Children’s Act and therefore confidentiality is of paramount importance to us. We can only engage with the community through personal or telephonic contact and not via social media, especially when it affects the children in our community.”

Welfare is thus campaigning for donations that include: Christmas hampers, custard, rice, long life milk, pasta, jelly, sweets, biscuits, chips, gravy powder, juice, chicken, meat, cup cakes, fresh, frozen or tinned vegetables and plastic supermarket packets.

Food and toy hampers will be handed out to families on 19 and 20 December. If anybody wishes to donate items towards these hampers or toys, call social worker Sandra Govender on 031-916-2274 between 8am and 12.30pm.
