Kuswag rugby team tackles fundraisers for international tournament

The Kuswag First Sevens team will be up against teams from South Africa, Reunion, Madagascar and Mauritius.

THE Kuswag first sevens rugby team have started fundraising for next year’s tour to Mauritius, where they will represent their school in the Vision Sports International Sevens Tournament.

The passionate players now turn to their community to assist with fundraising in any way possible.

The local boys will be up against teams from South Africa, Reunion, Madagascar and Mauritius.

The tour is from 2 to 9 October next year. The tournament will take place over two days, and the remainder will be spent travelling and seeing the island.

A hefty sum of R25,690 is asked of every player to enable them to participate in the tournament. This sum is an all inclusive package covering flights, accommodation, food ,watersports and travel while in Mauritius.

The team will have the opportunity to be coached by Blitzbokke legend, Franki Horn and Springbok Jacques Fourie once in Mauritius.

“Intruder Defence and Security has come on board as our main sponsor and will be putting in R30,000 for the boys,” said coach Zander Erasmus. “However, we have a lot of other expenses to cover like supplements, kits and assisting the boys financially. Fortunately Leuko Strapping is on board to assist the boys with all strapping required for the tour.”

The sevens team hosted a golf day at Kuswag on Saturday, 11 November, the ‘Kort Gat Classic’. Next year February will see another golf day held at Umdoni. Between now and the tour, the boys will be washing cars and bikes at the school on various Saturdays and selling boerewors rolls.

“All of the players are putting in serious time at the gym and on the field, I am certain that they’ll be ready come next year October,” said Erasmus.

Erasmus acknowledges the enthusiasm both the school and the parents show the team.
“We are open to anyone that can assist us with fundraising ideas, sponsorship towards items on our kit wish list or any monetary sponsorship,” he said.

If you are able to assist the Kuswag first sevens team in living out their once in a lifetime experience, contact Zander on 060-971-8039 or email zan8@live.com. Fellow coach Neil Terblanche can be contacted on 079-508-6884 or at terblanche25@gmail.com.

Shadow waitering at a local Spur raised the Kuswag rugby players an appealing sum of money that will go towards their Mauritius tour.
