Support fundraising golf day to send nippers to SA champs

Last year's golf day was a great success and Warnadoone Lifesaving Club hopes this year's event will enjoy even more support.

WARNADOONE Lifesaving Club invites the public to join in the fun at its golf day to raise money for its nippers to compete in South African championships in Port Elizabeth next April.
Last year’s golf day was a great success and the club hopes this year’s event will enjoy even more support.

The Warnadoone nippers season is in full swing, with a number of new children eager to learn about water safety and the sea.

“All coaches and nippers at the club are well into the season, training at every chance, preparing for all upcoming carnivals and the SA champs,” said Belinda Ingram of Warnadoone. “Our nippers will compete in four carnivals this season held at Addington Beach, the first one being Sunday, 15 October, with the Southern Natal Champs following on Scottburgh Beach on 3 December. KZN champs will take place on 27 and 28 January at Addington Beach (Marine) and the SA champs will be held in Port Elizabeth from 2 until 4 April.”

Due to the SA champs being held in Port Elizabeth, high costs are a given. “The club has already kickstarted our fundraising,” added Belinda. “We invite the public to join in the fun at our golf day fundraiser on Friday, 10 November at Amanzimtoti Golf Club. Last year this was well supported and an amazing success, this year we hope to achieve even more.

R1,600 will enter you for a four-ball with dinner included. Registration opens at 10am on the day, and those supporting stand a chance to win great prizes.

Aside from the golf day, we will definitely be pushing our outdoor movie nights which offer loads of fun for the children and a good fundraising event, where the children and adults get to relax at the club. Other fundraising ideas are still in the pipeline.”

The local club also explained its new environmentally-conscious initiatives. Recycling bins have been introduced at the club, as well as a ‘no straws policy’ which aims to educate all nippers and lifeguards about the importance of protecting the ocean.
