Spread Christmas cheer by filling festive boxes

To do your part, wrap a shoebox with Christmas paper and fill it with some special items.

Spread some cheer this festive season by putting together a Christmas box for the residents of Jabulani Senior Citizens Residence in Warner Beach and Mother of Peace (MOP) in Illovo.

“It is such a small thing but can make such a big impact,” said organisers, Caroline Bowker and Reena Solomon.

“We will appreciate your help in bringing joy to others. There are 82 residents (26 men and 56 women) to cater for at Jabulani and 70 children at MOP.”

To do your part, wrap a shoebox with Christmas paper and fill it with items such as: A face cloth, deodorant, shower gel or soap, mince pies, shortbread or biscuits, sweets and chocolates, small tin of tuna or a small jar of marmite.

“You can either do a full box or donate some items towards a box,” said Caroline.

“When packing your box, include a personalised note. This will give your gift a personal touch and will be extra special for the person who receives it.”

Boxes must be completed by 14 December. The drop-off point are Waterberg flats, 35 Beach Road or The Crazy Kitchen in St Winifreds.

“We will drop off the boxes on 16 December. I will bake some cakes and we would love it if people would come and visit the old folks at Jabulani and bring some cooldrinks and their children.”

Caroline and Reena are also looking for donations of umbrellas and raincoats for the MOP children.

For more information or to pledge, call Caroline after hours on 076-686-4491.
