Sapphire Coast Tourism sways verge competition criteria after storm
The tourism team decided to allow the community to share their verge photos from before the storm along with the masterpiece they created afterwards.
FOLLOWING the devastation that has inflicted on the town after the storm, Sapphire Coast Tourism has swayed its entry criteria for the business and residential verge contest.
After the storm tore through Amanzimtoti, laying waste to many stunning verges in the making, the tourism team decided to allow the community to share their verge photos from before the storm along with the masterpiece they created afterwards.
Creators of the top verges stand to win prizes sponsored by Illovo Nursery.
The competition began on Friday, 15 September and runs for two months until 15 November. All Sapphire Coast residents are urged to enter. The Sapphire Coast stretches from the eZimbokodweni River north of Athlone Park, Amanzimtoti down the coast to the Mahlongwa River just south of Crocworld, Clansthal and inland up to Umbumbulu.
All entrants must understand that by submitting their photo entries, these photos become the property of the Sun and Sapphire Coast Tourism. Another condition of the competition is that the winning entrant agrees to host a branded noticeboard which will be placed on their verge for a minimum of three months, stating their achievement.
Photos of the entered verges are to be emailed to hollyk@dbn.caxton.co.za which will be displayed on the Sun’s Facebook page. A panel of judges consisting of members from various environmentally-conscious groups in the community will be assembled to visit the entered verge and score it.
A winner will be chosen, and other spot prizes will be awarded. The finalists will be hosted by the Illovo Nursery for a breakfast at the Terrace Tea Garden, whereafter prizes sponsored by the nursery will be awarded.
