Golf club’s R20,000 kitty won by mystery man

The club cannot find the lucky winner, who was either playing golf or just visiting at Toti on Saturday.

FOR many months now Amanzimtoti Golf Club (AGC) has, with the assistance of LumenRock, been running a jackpot at R5 a ticket and the kitty has grown and grown and eluded all the hopefuls – until Saturday.

Ironically the R20,000 was won but the club cannot find the lucky winner, who was either playing golf or just visiting at Toti on Saturday.

So, desperately seeking Clive Craig (or Crous as the name cannot be read properly) to come forward and claim his whopping prize. If you know this man, ask him to contact the club to claim his winnings.

This weekend sees the running of the KwaZulu-Natal women’s golf interclub at Dundee, and 10 women from AGC have set off to represent the club. Given the form that Adri Slabber and Sue Conlan are in, they stand a good chance of taking the honours in the bronze division, while Jacqui Porrill and Liz Donald are a formidable team and will give the silver division a good run for its money. Good luck to all the players – may your putts drop, your drives go straight and true and the event be truly memorable.

Regulars at AGC will have seen the Herculean efforts of the green staff to get the course back into tip-top shape after the storm two weeks ago, and it is gratifying to see many of the trees which were semi-uprooted have been raised to their correct position and supported with stays in the hope that they will make a full recovery.

On Wednesday 33 players turned out to compete in the midweek meat IPS, where Lucy Pienaar once again gave the men a lesson in golf, winning on 38 points. She was followed two shots back by Bobby Milne and Kalvin van Rensburg, both on 36.

The Friday nine-hole meat competition attracted a good field of 26, with visitor Trevor Keet taking top spot on 20 points by shooting an exceptional round and getting cut a shot for his efforts, and counting out Neil Oberholzer and Bobby Milne in the process.

The women played a 4BBB on Saturday, and Sue Conlan and Adri Slabbert showed their interclub intent with a superb 45 points, while the men played a combined medal stableford and Rob Wilson and Tommy McNaughton took the honours on 83. In second place were the indomitable team of Brian Amm and Terry Boyce on 82, while Gerry Motley and Mike Igesund finished third on 79.

Tommy claimed nearest the pin on the seventh and Gerry took the equivalent on the 17th.

Lastly, a reminder that the 102nd annual general meeting of the Amanzimtoti Country Club and Conservancy takes place on Monday, 6 November in the hall at 5.30pm. All members are urged to attend.

As always, Toti welcomes visitors and locals to enjoy a game on its beautiful course. The driving range is open for those who are keen to try the game and the more diligent golfers who like to hone their skills.
