The Community Crime Prevention Organisation (CCPO) had a busy weekend fighting crime.

According to CCPO committee member, George Snodey, there was an armed robbery and a home invasion in Vasco Da Gama Drive in Doonheights on Sunday, 22 October, where a large sum of money was taken and shots fired.
Fortunately there were no injuries.

In Saltwood Drive, Toti there was also a home invasion on Sunday. Three men gained entry through a window. Cash and a TV were stolen and the home owner was stabbed in the arm.

Earlier in the day, housebreakings took place in Louis Botha Drive, Toti and Ocean View Road, Winklespruit.

“These are only the ones we are aware of,” said Snodey. “There could easily have been a few more we are unaware of. Let’s all unite against crime and fight back.

Don’t leave it to a handful of people to contribute to the CCPO. We all have a moral obligation to fight crime, if not for ourselves then for family and friends and those who can’t help themselves like the elderly and invalid.”

Amanzimtoti and surrounds were particularly hard hit by criminals on Friday, 21 October. These incidents occurred from Friday at about 9am to the early hours of Saturday morning.

There was a house breaking in Tecoma Place, Toti; house breaking in Princeville Road, Illovo Beach; attempted home invasion in Cypress Road, Athlone Park; house breaking in Churchill Road, Athlone Park; attempted house breaking in St Boniface Maze, St Winifreds; attempted theft of a laptop through an open window in St Raphael Street, St Winifreds; theft of cellphone from a business in Warner Beach; home invasion at a block of flats in Bailey Lane, Warner Beach; house breaking in Somerset Road, Warner Beach; robbery of pedestrians on Rockview Road and an armed robbery at Lords and Legends.

“This (amount of crime) obviously doesn’t happen every day, but it’s a reality check because this is what will happen and worse if we don’t keep fighting and resisting.

Our fate is in our own hands – we can swim or sink in the tidal wave of crime, it’s our choice,” said Snodey.
