Snowfall expected across Drakensberg

Heavy falls are expected across the Drakensberg, from north to south, but none of these falls are expected to come down into KZN.

Snow has fallen at Sani Pass this morning (Thursday, 5 October).

The Snow Report website reported that as the front moves further east, and meets some moist tropical air, residents can expect to see some flurries in the greater Amatole region (Hogsback) during Wednesday night.

The Eastern Cape Drakensberg area could get some snow settling during the early hours of Thursday morning, but heavy rain is expected and the snow could wash away quickly.

The big surprise is the Lesotho snow, which is currently looking extremely heavy at elevations above 2,900m, and not much expected below these levels.

“We are expecting heavy falls across the entire Drakensberg, from north to south, but none of these falls are expected to come down into KZN. We are seeing the possibility of falls between 20cm and 70cm across all the high peaks, which should create some spectacular views from KZN when the clouds clear on Friday,” said the report.
