The Community Crime Prevention Organisation (CCPO) warns Amanzimtoti residents to beware of scammers who offer goods for sale.
“On Thursday, 21 September we had another incident where someone went to meet these fraudsters with a view to purchasing a motor vehicle from them, after seeing it advertised,” said CCPO committee member, George Snodey.
It is believed the victim was lured to Southway Mall where he viewed the vehicle.
After the deal was done and the money transferred, he was taken for a drive. Firearms were produced and he was thrown out of the vehicle.

The victim ended up in Kingsway Hospital with no vehicle and R40,000 out of pocket. “If you intend doing a deal in the street, whether it’s to purchase a vehicle or a TV, do not go alone and be very wary,” warned Snodey.
“This is about the fourth incident I know of relating to the same modus operandi where vehicles are advertised, money changes hands and you lose out.”
