Luc took up surfing some two years ago, after deciding nippers wasn’t for him. The grade 5 pupil has made great progress and his love for the sport continues to grow by the day.

“When Luc decided nippers wasn’t for him, we went down to a local pawn shop and bought him an old board to mess around on,” said father, Julian Lepront. “In no time he needed a board that would enable him to grow his skills. Local board-shaper, Ryan Marco made him the right board that has enabled Luc to develop skills and achieve the results he’s capable of.”

Luc surfs for the Ugu Surfriders Association and at only 10 years of age, the passionate surfer managed to win all the u12 heats at the district trials held throughout the year. These achievements have qualified him to represent his province at the upcoming SA champs. The champs are held in Jeffrey’s Bay from 2 until 4 October.

The Ugu rider’s hard work has managed to secure himself a sponsorship from Graham Smith, father of iconic SA surfer, Jordy Smith.

Luc shines not only in his surfing, but is an avid swimmer and recently broke the 25m Butterfly record and won many medals at a Westville gala.

“Luc is really excited to surf Jeffreys Bay. We’re really proud of him and look forward to seeing his achievements,” said Julian.

The Lepronts thank Luc’s surf coach, Brendan Fijac, swimming coach, Luke Isemonger and board shaper, Graham Smith for welcoming Luc onto the Gee force team and making his new board in just two days.
