Frantic Amanzimtoti couple go two months without SASSA pension

Councillor encourages people who have then still not received a pension, to alert him with their full name and ID number.

An Amanzimtoti couple are frantic after not receiving their pension payout from the South Africa Social Security Agency (SASSA) for a second consecutive month.

Jabulani residents, Pat and Peter Babich said for the last 10 years they have not had a problem with Peter’s payout.

However that all changed when they last received a payout at the end of June.
“We have gone to the SASSA office four times to resolve the problem, but all they say is “We have our reasons”,” said the couple. “Five of us from Jabulani have not received our pensions,” said Peter.

Last month the SUN reported that a systems error within SASSA resulted in several social grant recipients not receiving their grants.

Due to the error, individuals were deleted from or dropped off the system. Those affected had to resubmit their applications, following which their profiles could be reactivated.

Peter doesn’t know whether they’ve been affected by this glitch or a separate issue.

Ward 97 councillor, Andre Beetge encourages people who have gone to SASSA and submitted their documents, but who have then still not received a pension, to alert him with their full name and ID number.

“SASSA indicates they cannot handle the Babages’ complaint, as it is a blanket complaint, but can only attend individual cases as the circumstances could well change from person to person,” said Cllr Beetge. “I forwarded the Babich’s number to a SASSA official, who committed to call and discuss the matter with them.”
