Honesty spurs local waiter’s good deed

Mlu Nungu's simple act of kindness and honesty reinstilled a sense of hope into the community.

A WAITER’S decision to return a lost wallet to its owner served as a great reminder that honesty remains as the best policy.

The good Samaritan gained popularity overnight after the owner of the wallet recounted his experience on Amanzimtoti Trader, expressing his gratitude to the honest waiter.

Local residents, David and Pat McMillan visited Amanzimtoti Clear Waters Spur on Saturday evening, 2 September. When he needed to pay, David realised he did not have his wallet and assuming he left it at home, he paid with cash.

“We came home and searched everywhere,” said David’s wife, Pat. “We even went to the bowling club in the hope that David had misplaced it there but we still couldn’t find it.”

The feeling of losing something as important as a wallet is a tough one to top. It was then that the couple called the restaurant and received word that it was found on the deck by waiter Mlu who handed it in.

Understanding the tedious process involved in replacing the lost items of a wallet, the couple were relieved at its return. “I can’t explain how grateful we are,” said Pat.
