Skilled miniaturist has AWI members in awe

Arrangements for the birthday party on 5 September were finalised

AMANZIMTOTI Women’s Institute (AWI) meeting opened with the singing of the FWI song, Unity.

Before Pat Rhodes read a special Women’s Day prayer, everyone stood in silence for a moment, lifting up the country as well as women everywhere, particularly those in need and distress.

President Yvonne Dixie welcomed all members and two visitors, Denise Kenton and Linda Mordyk.

Thank you to the AWI members for their kindness and generosity. As a result, a box full of stationery and other items will be taken to Bobbi Bear this month. Items were also brought for the birthday hamper raffle. If any member who was absent would like to contribute, contact the secretary Jennie Martin.

Arrangements for the birthday party on 5 September were finalised. The theme is shades of pink and everyone is asked to wear something pink, and if possible, to take along a pink spray to lay on the table or small bunch of pink flowers in a pink, white or clear vase. A plate of snacks from each person attending will ensure a grand feast, and anyone who has a set of matching cups, saucers and small plates, bring these for your table.

Member Vivienne Jarratt, who is a skilled miniaturist, brought along four little homes she had built. These were filled with the most exquisite items, everything to scale, from people to furniture and fittings, kitchen utensils, flowers, even a mouse. Everyone wished they had had more time to ‘ooh’ and ‘aah’.

After tea and delicious snacks (thank you to the tea team), Joanne Herbst from a new organisation called Elder’s Voice shared her passion with AWI, that being the care of destitute older people living in the community. Everyone was deeply touched and will surely be able to give her support.
