Highest Lions honour goes to Amanzimtoti stalwart

The award is in recognition of all the good work she has done in the community.

Amanzimtoti Lion, Carol Botha was awarded the prestigious Melvin Jones Fellowship award by the Lions Clubs International.

Founded in 1917 by Melvin Jones in the USA, Lions Clubs International is the largest international service organisation in the world. The Melvin Jones Fellowship is named after its founder.

“I was shocked, then overwhelmed,” said Carol on receiving the award. “It is the highest award that a Lion can receive.”

Carol received the honour as reward for her tireless work in the sight and hearing project, where Lions provides corrective spectacles and hearing aids to the elderly and underprivileged in South Africa and neighbouring countries.

Carol is also the ex-president of Amanzimtoti Lions and the award is in recognition of all the good work she has done in the community over her 27 years with Lions.

She can wear her Melvin Jones Fellowship lapel pin with pride, as it represents her dedication to humanitarian service to the highest degree.
