Warnadoone lifesaving club celebrates nine decades of success

The evening was a roaring success and festivities continued into the early hours of Sunday morning.

THE Warnadoone Surf Lifesaving Club’s 90th birthday dinner was held at the lifesaving club on Saturday, 5 August.

Those who attended enjoyed the roaring success of the evening and partied well into the early hours of Sunday morning.

Some 120 guests attended, including club members, old boys, nipper parents, committee members and invited guests as well as sponsors and members of South African Lifesaving.

The evening began with a welcome by MC Jacques Coetzee, which was followed by dinner and the annual prize giving hosted by devoted member, Landon Kruger. Some special awards were handed out by club president, Derek Fourie. The audience was entertained as speeches by the old boys and club president, Derek Fourie were made, which included stories from yesteryear.

Vic Woodhead of Kings Beach Lifesaving Club in Port Elizabeth presented the club with a special gift. The club members and old boys entertained the crowd with the traditional singing of Jerusalem.

The club’s Hayden Davies and Chetty Donald further entertained by playing the guitar and singing a few tunes.

Warnadoone Surf Lifesaving Club thanks Paul Fryer from Unik for the generous sponsorship of the furniture for the evening, Hypersure for the wine donated for the tables, Willie and the Dreamcoat team for ensuring the club was painted and looked wonderful for the evening, along with all those who joined in the celebration of South Africa’s oldest lifesaving club.
