Old boys rugby fixture to fund players’ medical costs

Old boys from as far as Johannesburg are expected to attend.

Amanzimtoti Rugby Club holds a fundraiser for Lifa Hlongwa, a Crusaders players who was injured after a collision with Jacques Blignaut during the second team’s match last month.

With three minutes left on the clock, Lifa collided with Jacques.
Jacques broke four back teeth and the force of the impact split his gum guard in two.

Both players were concussed and Jacques was taken to Westville Hospital for an overnight stay. The 36-year-old suffered several spinal injuries, while Lifa (23) had three spinal fractures and still has no feeling in his legs and lower back.

He has had an extended stay in hospital which has cost a lot of money. He will need lots of physio to recover, which will also be at huge financial cost.

This is why the club hosts an ‘old boys day’ on Saturday, 19 August to raise funds for Lifa’s medical expenses. Toti old boys take on Hillcrest old boys at 3pm, followed by the Springboks versus Argentina at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on the big screen.
