Thieves strike at Khanya Hospice again
After the robberies, the hospice was left without water.
“Enough is enough, no more.” That is the attitude of the Khanya Hospice staff after thieves targetted their offices in Umkomaas three times in a week to steal copper pipes.
“We were left without water and we were unable to use our toilets,” said CEO, Neil McDonald.
In an effort to get to the copper pipes, the suspects ripped off any pipe they saw. As Hospice House is over 100-years-old, there were various different pipes added during the years with only a few small pieces of copper, but the thieves did not care.

“Unfortunately we have the golf course at the back and that is all open land, where the thieves thrive and use as an escape route with lots of bush to hide. Khanya Hospice serves a huge community and our services are offered for free. We get no government funding and we have to buy whatever we need for patient care out of our own funding and donations. Now we have to spend our precious money to contract a plumber and pay for the water that was wasted.”
