Murder accused MK veteran dies in car accident

Joel Mahoase was due to re-appear in the Durban High Court on Monday, 31 July but the State requested his case be removed from the roll as he had died.

A former South African Air Force colonel who allegedly murdered his wife by throwing a hand grenade at her in 2015, has died.

Joel Mahoase was due to re-appear in the Durban High Court on Monday, 31 July but the State requested his case be removed from the roll as he had died. It is believed he died in a car accident.

The ex-MK veteran allegedly threw a hand grenade at his wife, Lesego Mahaose (33) in her Karridale Road, Shulton Park home on 30 August.

She was taken to Kingsway Hospital by family members, where she later succumbed to her injuries.

A second live hand grenade was found at the scene.

Mahoase handed himself over to Amanzimtoti police on Wednesday, 2 September, 2015, accompanied by his advocate. He was due to face charges of murder, attempted murder and possession of explosives charges.
