Roll up your sleeves and join Winkle Beach clean-up

The Clean Surf Project will be hosting a clean-up along the Winkle Beach stretch this Saturday, 5 August.

SALTY locals are calling on the community to join the Winkle Beach clean-up this Saturday morning, 5 August.

The clean-up organised by local NGO, Clean Surf Project, will commence bright and early at 7am.

Organised by the NGO and with Sapphire Coast Tourism attending, the morning promises to be a worth while event.

The NGO is growing in popularity since it first started in April this year.

According to research, plastic has been found in the bellies of dinner-plate items such as tuna and swordfish. This is the first study to link marine plastic ingestion to fish sold for human consumption.

“We aim to create awareness of the devastating cause of littering, especially plastic and polystyrene products,” said the NGO’s Denzil van der Westhuizen. “We also aim to highlight the impact it has on our ocean life, which affects us as human beings as well.”

Clean Surf Project aims to reach out to the community and through fun and exciting events, raise awareness about respecting nature.

For health reasons Denzil encourages residents to carry their own gloves. Plastic bags will be supplied by the NGO.
