Legal boost beefs up Amanzimtoti prostitute raid

Anyone caught using the services of these prostitutes will be arrested.

After months of planning by the Community Crime Prevention Organisation (CCPO), with legal guidance from a local lawyer, an operation was carried out to address the influx of prostitutes in Warner Beach on Friday night, 28 July.

The lawyer assisted CCPO CEO, Eugene Engelbrecht and attended numerous meetings with prosecutors, Metro Police and SAPS officials before the raid was conducted.

Police question some suspects in Warner Beach on Friday night, 28 July.

“These ‘ladies of the night’ have been held under surveillance for about a month with dates, times, makes and colours of vehicles that have picked them up being recorded,” said CCPO committee member, George Snodey.

With the help of Metro Police, who effected the arrests, and the co-operation and assistance of members at the police station, the operation went off smoothly.

The women were tracked down one by one and loaded up by Metro Police.

“As the CCPO, we are determined to get rid of prostitutes littering our streets. We feel with the help and assistance from Metro Police and SAPS, we can keep the pressure on them and ensure they know our area is a no-go zone.

More operations are planned and anyone using the services of these prostitutes will be arrested along with them if they are caught in an uncompromising position during the next operation,” said CCPO committee member, George Snodey.

After a couple of hours of paperwork, the women were detained by Amanzimtoti SAPS.

Further operations are being planned to target various criminal problems in Amanzimtoti.
