Armed men target Toti resident and gardener

Andreas Mathios advised residents to be vigilant and not to leave gates open for any prolonged period of time.

Armed robbers held up a gardener and a resident in broad daylight in St Winifreds, Amanzimtoti on Thursday, 27 July.

Blue Security community and media liaison officer, Andreas Mathios said five armed men arrived at the Fountain Avenue property in a white Corsa at about 12.20pm.

“The gang drove straight onto the property through the driveway gate, which was open because the gardener was busy working.

They held up the gardener and resident at gunpoint and fled with laptops, iPads and cellphones. They fled the scene in the home owner’s vehicle,” he said.

Mathios advised residents to be vigilant and not to leave gates open for any prolonged period of time while working in the garden or after arriving home.

“Opportunistic criminals cruise neighbourhoods and stake out properties, watching residents’ levels of security-consciousness before striking, so it is important not to give them any reason to perceive your property as an easy or open target,” said Mathios.
