Thieves target Amanzimtoti Child Welfare

Food items, including ingredients for the cooking and baking project, seven laptops, memory sticks and laptop bags were among the items stolen from the office.

AMANZIMTOTI Child Welfare is desperately appealing for help after the organisation was robbed this weekend.

Staff members arrived at the premises on Monday morning, 19 June to find the destruction caused by the robbers.

According to the organisation, the criminals entered through the top windows of the old church building and proceeded to kick in the ceiling to enter into the office. They then disarmed the alarm without alerting the security company.

Food items, including ingredients for the cooking and baking project, seven laptops, memory sticks and laptop bags were among the items stolen from the office. “The losses we face will set us back for many years to come,” said The Toti Welfare’s Poovan Naidoo.

“They were clearly not in a rush to leave,” said Poovan. “We noticed they had time to eat chocolates and even use the bathroom.”

The burglary took place some time over the weekend, as the offices weren’t opened until Monday morning.

The security company has repaired the alarm system, but the Welfare look to purchase one of higher security, however, funds are an issue.

“We don’t know where the funds to replace laptops, memory sticks, food and other stolen belongings is going to appear from.” Poovan went on to explain that the Welfare needed those laptops to type out statements as professionally as possible.

The Toti Child Welfare is desperate for any kind of assistance the community can offer. Laptops or computers – old or new – would be greatly appreciated. Food, memory storage devices and laptop bags are also desperately required. Funds are also needed for the installation of a higher security alarm system.
