Bakkie rolls at Amanzimtoti junction, kills pedestrian

The driver of the vehicle was apparently not found at the scene

A woman, believed to be in her 70s, died yesterday afternoon when she was hit by a bakkie that rolled at the School and Old Main Road intersection in Amanzimtoti.

ER24 paramedics responded to find a bakkie lying on its side against a residence.

On closer inspection, paramedics discovered the body of an elderly woman lying some distance away from the bakkie.

Assessment showed she had sustained numerous injuries and showed no signs of life. She was declared dead.

The driver of the vehicle was apparently not found at the scene. It is believed the driver lost control of the bakkie, causing it to roll into the elderly woman.

Local authorities were on scene to conduct an investigation into the incident.
