Today, 29 May is Paper Clip Day.

Watch this video first: Five ways to use paper clips

Here are the five unusual yet useful ways to use paper clips:

1. Replace ornament hooks
Extend the life of treasured Christmas tree ornaments by using paper clips to replace broken or lost hooks.

2. Make emergency clothing repairs
Do you have a fallen hem or broken zipper? No problem. Use paper clips to temporarily hold hems, or hook them on to zippers to use as impromptu pulls.

3. Use as bookmarks
Paper clips make great no-slip bookmarks! Simply clip onto the desired page, and throw the book into a purse or book bag.

4. Unclog tiny holes
Paper clips have the ideal size and sturdiness to de-clog small openings in hair-spray or glue bottles. Unbend and poke away as necessary.

5. Pit a cherry
Prefer your cherries pit-less? Unfold a paper clip at its center, then insert one hooked end into the top or bottom of the cherry. Once you feel you’ve hit the pit, lift it up and out.
