Suspected sinkhole forces closure of Amanzimtoti road

The hole lies about 150 metres past the Illovo Beach turn-off.

Motorists are warned to be cautious in the vicinity of a suspected sinkhole on the R102.

Ward 97 councillor, Andre Beetge said he was informed of the hole and he passed on the information while on a visit to the Department of Transport offices in FDurban on Monday morning, 29 May.

The hole lies about 150 metres past the Illovo Beach turn-off in the left-hand lane as you travel towards Karridene.

“It is hollow beneath the roadway and filled with water. Proceed with extreme caution,” said Cllr Beetge. “DOT will investigate and has closed the lane for repairs.”
