Bakkie driver injured in head-on collision

The driver of the bakkie tried to avoid a car and lost control.

A driver sustained serious injuries in a head-on collision in Isipingo on Saturday, 27 May.

“I was driving back from Umhlanga at about 11.30am when I came across an accident on the N2 south just before the Isipingo off-ramp,” said Netcare 911 media liaison officer, Chris Botha.

According to Botha, the driver of a bakkie said he was tailing a vehicle when the driver slammed the brakes. The driver of the bakkie tried to avoid the car and lost control.

Another vehicle driving south hit the bakkie head-on and the wreckage of both vehicles came to rest in the bush at the side of the roadway.

“I stopped and ran over to the vehicles to check on the occupants. The driver of the bakkie sustained serious injuries, while the other occupants escaped uninjured,” said Botha.

The patient was stabilised at the scene and then transported to a nearby hospital.
