Car guard adopts centre’s stray cat, Stompie

Stompie, the stump-tailed black manx, has taken a liking to one of the centre's car guards, who as a Mother's Day gift, was allowed to home her forever.

KINGSBURGH Centre cat, ‘Stompie’ is another well-known stray that has found her forever home.

This follows the tale of Liberty, the stray dog that had taken up residence at Seadoone Mall in recent months, and last week changed his address to a more permanent and stable home with a Toti couple.

Stompie, the stump-tailed black manx, has taken a liking to one of the centre’s car guards, who as a Mother’s Day gift, was allowed to home her forever.

“Stompie was a semi-wild cat when she came to us,” said car guard, Maureen Rolling. “We started feeding her and she became increasingly friendly and trusting.”

Those who have befriended Stompie gather that she’s about 12-years-old. It was discovered that she ran away from her previous home and her three kittens. During her time in the centre’s parking lot, customers have tried to take her home but she’s always escaped and made her way back. The car guards have fought tirelessly to keep her out of harm’s way.

During the heavy rain over the weekend of 12 May, Maureen took it upon herself to take the cat home, giving it a warm, dry place for the weekend.

“Stompie wasn’t able to go outside but used the litter box put down for her,” said Maureen. “She slept on the bed at our feet on both nights.”

Sunday morning was Mother’s Day and the following day was Maureen’s birthday. She asked her husband if she could home Stompie forever. Agreeing to the new addition to the family, Maureen and her husband have welcomed the little minx into their home.

“I want those who knew her from the centre to know she is happy and well-cared for,” said Maureen.

“She has befriended my little dog and bird, they play just fine. She sleeps for most of her day, as cats do.”

Maureen thanks all the lovely people for the support and especially Tracey Girling of Amanzimtoti SPCA for her help over the years.
