AWI speaker’s tenacity inspires members

Yvonne thanked members for the toiletries donated to Bobbi Bear this month

PRESIDENT of the Amanzimtoti Women’s Institute (AWI), Yvonne Dixie welcomed all members to the meeting, especially visitors Sandy Elliott and Stella van der Walt.

Yvonne, on behalf of executive member Robyn Schwikkard, thanked those who helped with tea and snacks for the Group AGM on 4 May.

AWI thanks inspirational speaker, June Neuhoff for taking her valuable time to come and talk to members. June has cerebral palsy and she faces many challenges to get through each day. She is a very intelligent and determined lady. She drives her own car, is happily married with four children all of whom have passed university, and she has grandchildren. June has written her autobiography ‘The Real Me’. With a smile, she says: “Remember the ‘Tortoise and the Hare’? Well, I get there but it just takes a little longer.”

Yvonne thanked members for the toiletries donated to Operation Bobbi Bear this month, and would really appreciate it if warm clothing – new or old – could be donated at the June meeting for Bobbi Bear. Both children’s and adults’ clothing is needed as Bobbie Bear also has elderly destitute people in their care.

Patricia McCann produced a script ‘Looks get in the way’, a fun and amusing story read by Jennie Martin and Janet Jackman, which brought to everyone’s attention that beauty is only skin deep, but true beauty inside a person is more important.
