21 Club parties in purple

The interesting talk on “Beauty through the Ages” highlighted various strange and often amusing practices of individuals and races in times gone by.

AT the April luncheon, dressed to the nines in their favourite shade of purple, members of the 21 Club acknowledged 65 years of great camaraderie.

Pretty tiered stands of cupcakes iced in purple and decorated with flowers and butterflies took centre spot on the tables and the black and silver décor set the scene for a wonderful celebration.

Many thanks to the women who sponsored the cupcakes and to Jill Jones who did the baking and icing.

21 Club was established after the founder, Jeppe Milton placed an advert in the newspaper inviting businesswomen who thought they would enjoy a monthly luncheon and an interesting speaker to respond. Twenty women joined Jeppe and the rest is history.

Numbers have fluctuated during the years, falling as low as eight in 1965. The constitution has been altered several times to allow more members to join. Today membership stands at 90 with a healthy waiting list.

Lords and Legends’ tasty pork main was much enjoyed and Greg’s memorable meringue creation was a triumph.

21 Club member and well known local beautician Hannelore Wagner was the speaker. Born in Bavaria, Germany, Hannelore moved to Vienna at the age of two and to Tanzania when she was 10. After completing her schooling, she returned to Vienna to acquire her Diploma in Cosmetology.

After moving to South Africa in 1964, Hannelore had various work experiences which did not fully utilise her expertise. She turned to establishing a home salon which allowed her to pursue her passion. As a member of the SA Association of Health and Skin Care Professionals, Hannelore has been in Toti since 1978 and is simply a legend whose clients will surely not allow her to retire any time soon.

The interesting talk on ‘Beauty through the ages’ highlighted various strange and often amusing practises of individuals and races in times gone by. The question and answer slot at the end was very much appreciated.

Many thanks to Hannelore who assured the members there was much more to hear about.

A huge thank you to everyone in the club who has contributed to the fundraising drive for Storm’s trip to America and surgery, either by contributing to the hampers or buying and selling raffle tickets.
