Gear up for first snowfall

In its latest report, Snow Report SA said Friday morning will see the first snow fall over the Eastern Cape Drakensberg.

Brace yourselves, we may be in for the first snowfall this winter.

According to Snow Report SA, snow could fall over the KZN Drakensburg on Friday, 12 May.

Its latest report said Friday morning will see the first snow falls over the Eastern Cape Drakensberg, extending into Lesotho and the KZN Drakensberg by lunch time.

These falls will continue into the evening and through the night on Friday, and some falls could start appearing on the foothills and in towns close to the KZN Drakensberg, such as Underberg.

Snowfalls in the KZN Midlands are looking unlikely at this stage, although light flurries are possible in Matatiele, Kokstad and surrounds, with nothing likely to settle.

Snowfalls over the EC Drakensberg, the KZN Drakensberg and Lesotho are likely to continue into Sunday evening and Monday morning at this stage, and some heavy falls can be expected on the top of the Drakensberg.

We are seeing the possibility of some snow depths up to 100cm over some areas of the Drakensberg for the duration of this snow event. The Drakensberg will get snow right from the EC through to the northern Drakensberg.

The South African Weather Service has confirmed predictions that snow may fall in parts of the country thanks to a cold front landing later this week.
