[WATCH]: Toti locals get on board to revamp skate park

The locals envision a safe environment, where the youth are able to retreat to spend their days outdoors, away from their phones, televisions and couches.

A group of skateboarders are on a mission to transform the Warner Beach skate park with the aim of uplifting the town and its youth.

In only 12 days, the project has seen amazing growth and attracted support, with sponsors helping them to shape the run-down remnants of what was formerly the Warner Beach tennis court grounds.

Petra Concrete Products and Boarding SA have assisted and supported their efforts thus far, but more assistance is required.

Reece Hargreaves, Dylan Cronje and Jason Hogan are hard at work creating the ramps they’ve only dreamed of skating on.

About a year ago, the skatepark moved from its dangerous location on the tarred section at the corner of Isundu Drive and Civic Road near Hutchison Park to the old tennis court between Baggies and Warnadoone Beach. Now passionate local skaters of all ages have joined forces to improve their skating experience.

“We could not skate on the old turf,” said skateboarder, Riccardo Annandale. “No-one was going to do anything about it, so we had to do it ourselves.”

The locals envision a safe environment, where the youth are able to retreat to spend their days outdoors, away from their phones, televisions and couches.

“We’ve been attracting skaters from all over,” said Joel Scott. “The word of our mission is travelling all over the country, thanks to the growing support.”

The skaters are rebuilding the park. New ledges, half and quarter pipes are some of the structures they’re working on.

“All the youngsters who come down and leave with sore backs and blistered hands are learning how much hard work is needed for this place to get off the ground,” said Dean. “They look twice when someone disrespects the ramp they made.”
