Cyclists raise almost R20,000 in Tour Durban fundraising drive

Husky Rescue KZN relies on donations from the public for its survival and we are extremely grateful to these incredible cyclists for their contribution.

FIVE cyclists dedicated their recent Tour Durban cycle race to Husky Rescue KZN.

Allyson du Plooy, Chantelle Webber, Ann du Plessis, Penny Chapman and Gary Marquis Jones shared their individual Backabuddy crowdfunding link with friends, family and work colleagues to raise funds via social media.

Through sharing their links, they collectively raised R19,094 for the huskies.

Husky Rescue KZN is a registered NPO focused on rescuing stray and unwanted huskies. They treat, rehabilitate, sterilise, microchip and foster these dogs until they can find appropriate homes for them. Given their unique nature and needs, many of their dogs have been rehomed several times.

The money raised by the ‘Pedal for Paws’ cyclists will cover the sterilisation, microchips and vaccination costs for six dogs, namely Sadie, Blaze, Boika, Prince, Leila and Aurora. However, as the money raised far exceeded their expectations, it will also enable them to ensure that the 48 huskies in their care receive food for the next two months and help settle outstanding vet bills.

Husky Rescue KZN relies on donations from the public for its survival and is extremely grateful to these cyclists for their contribution. To learn more about the organisation, go to www.huskyrescuekzn.co.za
