Elected committee members to receive portfolios

This is being done in an effort to strengthen the relationship between the municipality and its residents.

The inaugural meeting of the ward 97 ward committee will take place on Sunday, 7 May.

At this meeting, each of the 10 elected ward committee members will be assigned a portfolio.

The various portfolios are:

1. Secretary

2. Sport, arts, culture and recreation

3. Transport, roads and stormwater

4. Youth, gender and vulnerable groups

5. Electricity, water and sanitation

6. Health, safety and security

7. Human settlements

8. Cleansing and solid waste

9. Skills development and job creation

10. Entrepreneurship and small business support.

“Following this, a process will unfold to appoint 10 volunteer community members to each portfolio to assist and advise the ward committee members on input to the monthly meetings that will be scheduled in accordance with the council agenda,” said ward 97 councillor, Andre Beetge. “This is in an effort to strengthen the relationship between the municipality and its residents.”

Similar processes will unfold across all 110 wards between 6 May and 21 May, with neighbouring ward 93 to conduct the same inauguration on 7 May.
