It is believed the driver of the vehicle lost control and overturned.

Seventeen people were injured when the taxi they were travelling in overturned on the N2 south near Galleria Mall on Monday morning, 1 May.

“Reports from the scene indicate the driver of the vehicle lost control at about 9.20am and overturned, with the twisted frame of the vehicle coming to rest on its roof,” said Netcare 911 media liaison officer, Chris Botha.

The cause of the accident is unknown at this stage, but investigations will continue.

“Paramedics found the injured commuters had clambered out of the wreckage, some with the help of the others, and were found at the side of the roadway. After the injured were examined, it was found that 17 people sustained injuries ranging from serious to minor,” said Botha.

Netcare 911 and ER24 medics stabilised the injured at the scene, before transporting them to various hospitals.
