A career workshop was hosted by the Isimilo Development Foundation at Reunion Secondary School on Monday, 24 April.
“The workshop was an absolute success, thanks to an amazing team and support from all stakeholders,” said chairman of the Isimilo Development Foundation, Paul Makhanya.
The Isimilo Development Foundation is a non-profit organisation based in Umlazi Township which focuses on education as its primary objective to target the youth of South Africa. All its programmes are school-based. The organisation was started last year, to encourage school leavers to choose the right career paths.
Stakeholders at the career workshop included the eThekwini South Durban Basin department, Y Motors and Yamampela Events, and exhibitors were the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants, University of South Africa, Durban University of Technology, Ikamva Youth, 1Woman1Girl, Biz Farm, SAPS, eThekwini Human Settlement Department and eThekwini Libraries Department.
Members of the KZN Department of Education delivered the keynote address.
Speaking to the pupils during his address, Makhanya, said, “It’s essential to build a solid character, so that you are able to stand for what you believe in and want for your life.”
“Understanding your inner person before seeking material things will help you make informed choices in your life.”
After the addresses, pupils were given gifts of school bags, pencil cases and stationery.
