Taxi owners fund close on 300 school uniforms, shoes

Taxi owners paid for the uniforms, shoes and lunch out of their own pockets.

The South African National Taxi Council Association (SANTACO) Ningizimu one region hosted a school outreach event at Amanzimtoti Civic Centre on Friday, 21 April.

A total of 287 pupils from 66 local schools received complete school uniforms and shoes directly funded by taxi owners.

The Ningizimu one region covers the greater Amanzimtoti area, from Isipingo to Umbumbulu and inland to mid-Illovo.

Communications officer, Nelo Luthuli said this year 13 taxi associations from the region participated in the annual outreach event.

“Taxi owners visited various schools in the region to select the pupils to received uniforms and shoes,” she said. “The owners paid for the uniforms, shoes and lunch out of their own pockets. The SA Taxi Finance company sponsored water, pens and folders for the event.”
