Holidaymakers and locals soak up Amanzimtoti’s beauty
There were limited overflow requests circulating in the local hospitality sector.
Easter tourists in Amanzimtoti were definitely down on numbers this season.
That’s the word from Sapphire Coast Tourism (SCT) management, who said despite a low attendance, overall the Easter long weekend went off well.
“Unfortunately the weather was not too great and sea conditions were dirty over the weekend,” said SCT chairman, Monique Botha. “However, locals and holidaymakers made the best of the conditions and came out to enjoy our beaches.”
SCT arranged for two local DJs to entertain visitors on Amanzimtoti main beach and Winklespruit Beach from Friday through to Sunday from 9am to 2pm. “The weather wasn’t great at all on Friday, so we moved DJ Craig from Winklespruit Beach to The Toti Brewing Company,” said Botha.

On the beaches, visitors were spoilt with free Easter eggs, vouchers courtesy of Lords and Legends, Hit the Spot and The Toti Brewing Company, as well as KFC buckets and spades, SCT-branded T-shirts and pens.
“Visitors enjoyed Easter egg hunts, volleyball competitions and fun games on the beaches. On Sunday morning, Amanzimtoti Athletic Club hosted the Dick King Run at Amanzimtoti main beach and it was lovely see to locals and holidaymakers support the event,” said Botha.
Regarding available accommodation, SCT treasurer, Kim McCarthy said there were limited overflow requests circulating in the local hospitality sector.
“A number of factors could have contributed to the low turnout, such as the Two Oceans Marathon taking place in Cape Town, the Splashy Fen Music Festival in the Berg, mid-month financial blues and unreliable weather,” said McCarthy.
“A new booking pattern has emerged in the hospitality sector, with potential visitors being able to watch weather patterns over longer periods and with greater accuracy, thus they make more informed decisions before they travel.
There appears to be bigger interest in the April month-end long weekend than there was over Easter. We look forward to that, in the hope that the Highland Gathering enjoys a record number of visitors this year.”
