Four shifts of officials are already deployed at the new fire station located at 153 MacLean Street since its opening on 6 February.

Leading fire fighter, Frank Mkhungo, ward 97 councillor, Andre Beetge, station commander, Paul Audie, Dianne Kohler Barnard MP, senior fire fighter, Shaun Reed and leading fire fighter, Siya Kheswa.

Umkomaas and surrounding areas were previously serviced from Amanzimtoti, but delayed reaction time due to the distance and the rapid urbanisation of the area necessitated a new and more centrally-located fire station to serve the surrounds.

The station is linked to the eThekwini emergency services call centre on 031-361-0000.
