Fly a prayer for SA instead

The minister believes that we are unified as South Africans, whether church-goers or not, and he opens the doors of the church for everyone to reflect and pray.

FOLLOWING last Friday’s cabinet reshuffle there has been a call for stay-aways, marches and protests to take place this Friday, 7 April.

St Winifreds Methodist Church minister, Peter Butterworth says, religious ties to the church aside, the doors of the holy place will instead be open to those wishing to send their prayers and good thoughts to the country’s decisionmakers on Friday, 7 April.

“After reading threats of strikes and stay-aways taking place this Friday, I thought we could offer an alternative for those who aren’t keen to tackle the streets of Durban in protest,” said Peter.

St Winifreds Methodist Church in Warner Beach will be open from 7am to noon where all members of the community are welcome to stop in to pray.

Peter clarifies that there is no religious ties to the morning’s event. He hopes to see all different creeds, sizes, races and beliefs coming together, uniting as South Africans.

“A combination of scripture and wise words from the likes of Mandela and other great people who had a huge role to play in the country, will be shared with those visiting the church on Friday morning,” said Peter.

“With bunting flags made, people can write their thoughts or prayers on the material flags which will then be strung up around the church, as ‘prayer flags’.”

“This is not about race, but about the passion we have for the country we belong to and combating corruption,” he said.
