Burst water pipe repair in Illovo Beach to be fixed within 48 hours

Initial repair work done on Sunday failed but temporary water supply has been secured

A burst water pipe at Illovo Beach which was spouting water in the early hours of Sunday morning, 2 April should be repaired within 48 hours.

The repair was done on Sunday but it failed.

According to ward 97 councillor, Andre Beetge, the department has in the meantime been able to re-route water to the area. At 11.30am on Monday morning, Beetge said the reservoir was still filling up and pumps would kick in once it reached the 1.5-metre mark, which should be at about 2pm.

This temporary supply means Illovo Beach residents, including those at Larnarco and Panorama Park, are requested to limit water usage so as not to drain the reservoir completely.

A new trench is being dug to accommodate the re-routing of the main line and fitment of a new section of steel pipe.
