School break boredom-beaters

Find fun and inventive ways to entertain your little ones and their friends.

EASTER holidays have begun for school children across South Africa.

As exciting as this sound for the children, the true question is what will they do for the next three weeks? How will their superhero parents entertain them long enough until second term begins?

Before you lose your minds and start envisioning a world of boredom and destruction and before you order them to watch endless TV or play games…

Find fun and inventive ways to entertain your little ones and their friends:

  1. Create a cupcake station – bake a few trays of plain cupcakes. Lay out sweets, chocolates, nuts and icing and some decoration tools and let them go baker crazy on their cupcakes.
  1. Keep them active – build an obstacle course using old brooms, hoolahoops, used tyres or anything you can find in your home. Make it interesting by turning it into a relay.
  1. Stretch their imagination – Encourage your children to play and peel them away from technology. Play with them and pretend you’re a pirate in search of treasure. Or pretend your garden is magnificent jungle that hides a native tribe. Just have fun!

  1. Go on an adventure – Pack the children in the car and go for a ride to a park, museum or gardens. Pack a few snacks and let them explore. Just because it’s holidays doesn’t mean the learning stops.

  1. Get artistic – Lay out large pieces of paper on the floor and let them go wild. There is nothing more heartwarming than your children drawing you a picture.
  1. Reading and writing – Encourage them to a read and challenge them to write their own short stories. Perfect for those rainy days.

There is so much that can be done during school holidays but the best part is spending quality time with your family. Holidays are a great time to reconnect and also to get in touch with your inner child. Keep them safe and show them mummy and daddy can have fun too.’’
