BREAKING NEWS: Illegal netters bagged on Illovo River

Two illegal gill netters collared

Swift work by Illovo Beach community security service’s Gary van Sluis saw two illegal gill netters collared on the Illovo River on Thursday morning, 30 March.

Van Sluis spotted what he suspected was illegal netters on the river at about 7am and called CCPO committee member, George Snodey for assistance.

“We caught two guys with two gill nets, while one escaped with one net on a raft,” said Snodey.

Among the many undersized fish found in the nets are grunter and rock salmon.

At 8.40am Snodey and Van Sluis were still waiting for authorities to arrive to hand over the illegal netters.
