Amanzimtoti Golf Club lauds grounds improvements

The Wednesday IPS competition was well supported with 35 players turning out to compete in stunning conditions.

AMANZIMTOTI Golf Club’s committee continues to manage the clubhouse and grounds with inspiration, as the improvements just keep coming.

Over the past few weeks it was the turn of the 17th green, with the area adjacent to the hazard being fitted with a rather retro-style wall which allowed for the over-run area to be extended a bit.

Players are asked not to attempt to climb in and out of the hazard where the work has been done, as the sides of the bank are still fragile and need time to cover over with grass. If you are that attached to your golf ball, enter the hazard well away from the new section, or better still use a ball-retriever.

On Friday night the club hosted The Black Lapels, a four-man band who presented a tribute to Credence Clearwater Revival, and definitely did the songs justice. A good crowd turned out, perhaps in direct defiance against the weather which was threatening to ruin a good party. Watch the club notice boards for the next event, as these are proving to be popular and tickets will go quickly.

The Wednesday IPS competition was well supported with 35 players turning out to compete in stunning conditions. Hannes Botha took the honours with a very good 43 points, followed by Martin Rumbelow and Karl Beck on 39. Friday’s nine-hole sundowner didn’t happen, courtesy of foul weather.

On Saturday the women decided not to get soaked so the competition was cancelled, but the men made a feast of it, with 46 brave souls challenging the elements. Having said that the weather did improve and allow for some decent golf and Jason Moriarty and Bester Swart obviously revelled in the damp conditions. They shot 50 betterball points to take top spot, followed by Nic Brits and Martin Tait on 45. In third place were Brian Stephen and Rex Parson on 44 points.

Nearest the pins went to Mike Igesund on the seventh and Rob Stone on the 17th, and Jason rounded off a good afternoon by winning the jackpot holes.

Toti GC welcomes all visitors to the area to play a round of golf on its superb course. Take the family along to enjoy the catering and outside facilities, and take a break while your children entertain themselves on the outdoor gym. The driving range is open most days, so take the opportunity to hone your skills. Phone the pro shop on 031-902-1166 to book a tee-off time or for more details.
