DSHI pupils get taste of library fun during #LibraryWeek2017

PUPILS from the Durban School for the Hearing Impaired were treated to a morning at the Amanzimtoti library on Friday, 24 March.

In honor of national library week, the school’s visit was one of many projects the library had planned over the week.

Why do we celebrate library week?

Library assistant, Theseni Narasiah ensured the children were kept busy in the library, with a combination of learning and having fun. Information about the different sections of the library and their purposes were explained, which kinds of books can be found and where, as well as how to go about joining the library, enabling them to rent books and more.

Knowledge shared about big-eyed owls, the blazing hot sun and its vast solar system as well as iconic childhood characters had the children in awe. After explaining her way through the library, the pupils were given time and encouraged to get stuck into the books, finding which genre tickled their fancy.

The grade 4, 5 and 6 hearing-impaired pupils had their minds opened to all a library can offer at no better time than during National Library Week.
