AS questions spread on social media about possible residential evacuations because of #DurbanFire, eThekwini Municipality has urged calm.
The statement released on the city’s Facebook page said 41 fire vehicles are onsite – 35 fire trucks and six support vehicles. There are also 125 fire personnel on duty.

“Our water department has made provision for enough water to be available to assist with this operation.
We continue to ask residents to remain calm. We plead with certain residents to stop spreading panic in their communities. We will keep residents updated.”
Ward 66 councillor, JP Prinsloo has also issued a statement, calling for residents to stay calm.
“Both Metro Police central station and the disaster management centre confirm that no evacuation has been implemented or is planned for now.
The fire is still burning but the rain has helped to control the flames a bit. The fire is not subsiding but fire fighters are currently keeping the flames under control,” he said.
