President’s report reminds AWI members of 2016’s accomplishments

The meeting ended with thanks to the tea women for the delicious snacks.

PRESIDENT of Amanzimtoti Women’s Institute (AWI), Yvonne Dixie welcomed all members to the AGM on Tuesday, 14 March with a special welcome to Robyn Schwikkard, the executive member,

Yvonne read out her president’s report, reminding members of last year’s activities, speakers, competitions, outings and celebrations.

Robyn thanked Yvonne for her dedication, enthusiasm and interest in AWI and members.

Office bearers, committee members and helpers were elected, with two new members being Barbara Collins and Janet Jackman. A big thank you was extended to the judges who give so much of their time to judge the WI’s competitions.

Alexander Group AGM is to be held on Thursday, 4 May at 9.30am with Toti WI hosting. Members are invited to lunch at Lords and Legends after the meeting.

AWI was sad to hear that Corinne Stephenson resigned due to her health. Corinne was a valued member of WI for over 50 years. Her knowledge of home making, exhibits and cookery were so helpful to everyone. AWI will truly miss her.

Bobbi Bear was confirmed as the WI’s charity for 2017. Members for the April meeting are asked to take along tin food as their donation.

Thank you Norma Veldtman for the quiz, members really had to search for quite some time for the answers. Christine Jankowitz read out her adult-ed poem ‘Influence of Colour’ for which she received the trophy for the month’s highest mark. Patricia McCann read out a 17th century nun’s prayer, followed by singing ‘When Irish Eyes are Smiling’.
