KZN racers blast their way to Tour Natal rally action-filled win

It was filled with new rules, new faces, and still the same fantastic racing.

KZN’s own Guy Botterill and Simon Vacy-Lyle produced a really fast and polished performance to take their Toyota Etios to a dominant win, ahead of the Fiestas of Richard Leeke/Henry Kohne and Johan van Wyk/Scott Howden.  A blistering time on the first run through the iconic Ellingham stage earned them a handy gap over the competition, which they extended on each following stage.

The slippery cane road surfaces claimed a few victims.  The R2 Polo of AC Potgieter and Mari van der Walt rolled, while Megan and Ollie Verlaque smacked a tree very solidly with their Golf.

The classic class brought some of the favourites of the 80’s out to play.  The sights and sounds of the Escorts that bossed the sport in the period brought many happy memories to life.  Lee Rose and Elvene Coetzee took their gorgeous Escort RS to an emphatic class win and fourth overall to boot.  The open class went to the local BMW 135 (RocketSled) of Trevor Graham and Brian Clifton, proving that RWD lives on.
