Hijacked couple robbed, dropped in Illovo

They were approached by three men, one of whom wielded a gun.

A 22-year-old Umzinto woman and her friend were carjacked while parked at Park Rynie beach on Tuesday evening, 14 March.

They were approached by three men, one of whom wielded a gun, at about 8.50pm.

The couple were forced into the back seat and driven off towards Durban. The car then turned off the freeway into an area unfamiliar to the victims, where they were robbed of their belongings and abandoned.

“It was later established that they had been dropped off in the Illovo area,” said SAPS’ Vincent Pandarum. “After seeking assistance from a passer-by they were able to contact relatives who fetched and took them home.”

The couple were robbed of their belongings including an Armani watch, ring, cellphones, Prada purse, handbag, jerseys, sandals, a knapsack and money. The police continue to search for the stolen charcoal VW Polo, NX39657 and the three criminals.

Fortunately, the couple was unharmed. A case of hijacking has been opened by the Scottburgh SAPS for investigation. An appeal is made for anyone with any information that may help with the investigations, to contact the Scottburgh SAPS detectives on 039-978-1900, Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or their nearest police station.
