PLAYERS who went through to the second round of the men’s open singles at Amanzimtoti Bowling Club (ABC) on Saturday were Keith West, Greg McLeod, Doug Joubert, Mike Pitchers, Barry Bush, Lofty van Tonder, William Sithole, Vince Phaal, Graham Ellis, Ian Crouch, Gustav Somers, Andy Walker and Linden Cooper.

In the second round on Sunday, Greg, Mike, Lofty, Vince, Ian, Gustav and Linden and Steve Woor, who had a bye in the first round, went through.

There were some surprises in the third round with Mike Pitchers, Lofty van Tonder, Gustav Somers and Linden Cooper making it to the semi-finals. Thank you to all those who gave their time to help with marking.

In the second round of the women’s handicap singles, Leonie Mills prevailed over Lynn Joubert after 22 ends. In a first round game of women’s drawn trips, Heather Cooper, Sue Welch and Margaret van Belkum beat Heather Brown, Kathy Cox and Talla Stephens-Viviers.

Winners of the women’s 2-4-2 were Doreen Salmond and Jackie Holdrick; runners-up were Julie Sutherland and Elmarie Young; and second session went to Amanda Ninow and Linda McGregor.

At TGIF Robyn Hutton won the 100 board. Social member Mike Igesund’s number was drawn in the attendance draw, however he was not at the club so next week’s draw will be worth R350. Another social member, Willie McAmlie’s number came up in the key draw. In his absence Linda McGregor tried to choose the lucky key for him, but sadly it wasn’t the right key. Next week’s key will be worth R8,080.

Note the first round of women’s drawn pairs will take place on Saturday, 18 March. Remember on Wednesday, 22 March it will be the first B20 fun game from 5.30pm. This will be under floodlights, so good fun is in store for players and spectators alike.

Barflies will return on the morning of Sunday, 2 April, where bowlers and non-bowlers are welcome. Cost is R10 with no charge to players 18 and under. Go along and learn the sport of bowls. Bowls will be provided, flat soled shoes are to be worn.

The list for the Easter mixed fives tournament is on the board. This will be played on Saturday and Sunday, 15 and 16 April. Teams of five will be drawn to play trips and pairs. Dress is mufti.

Birthday wishes go this week to Andrew Pearce, Maggie Robertson, Kathy Cox, Pete Shepard and Brenda Mulligan. Good health is wished to all.
