TOTI Bird Park's charity tea garden operates every Wednesday morning from 9.15am to noon

SATURDAY, 11 MARCH: Durban and Coastal branch of the Genealogical Society of South Africa meets at 1.45pm for 2pm at the Family History Centre, LDS Church, corner of Silverton and Vause roads, Musgrave. The entrance is in Montgomery Road which is off Silverton Road. Off-road parking is available. Donald Davies from the South African Military Society will give a presentation (talk and slides) on ‘Durban Aflame’: Burning of German businesses after the sinking of the Lusitania. SATURDAY, 11 MARCH: Sanctuary of the Great White Light, 9 Barrow Street Umkomaas hosts Sharon Row and Carol Alberts for a workshop on how to meet your guides, what a guide is and their purpose. This should be an interesting afternoon for all. For more information, call Gayle on 083-654-5261.

Everyone will have a lovely picnic.

SUNDAY, 12 MARCH: Toti Ramblers will ramble at Burman Bush in Morningside, Durban. Meet at Lords and Legends at 7am to arrange lifts. There is a picnic tea after the walk. For enqueries, contact Eileen on 031-903-1617.

SUNDAY, 12 MARCH: The next full moon beach walk starts at 6pm from Baggies, Warner Beach to Winkle Beach and back. Take along a torch along as it is now quite dark when the group returns. Parents are asked to remember to keep your children in sight at all times. Dogs on leashes are welcome. For enquiries call Yvonne on 074-190-0949.

MONDAY, 13 MARCH: SAARP meets at 9.30am for 10am in the activities room of Toti library. Members are reminded to put their names on the clipboard and to pay for their AOA lunch on Wednesday, 15 March. June Neuhoff is the speaker. New members from 50 years upwards are always welcome. TUESDAY, 14 MARCH: The March meeting of Amanzimtoti Women’s Institute starts at 9.15am in the activities room adjacent to Amanzimtoti library. This month’s programme includes an interesting speaker, display and judging of monthly competition items, the annual general meeting and election of the year’s office bearers. The usual tea and coffee with delicious homemade snacks will follow. Visitors are welcome. Phone Yvonne on 031-903-1942.

WEDNESDAY, 22 MARCH: 21 Club celebrates St Patrick at its luncheon at the Lords and Legends conference room at noon for 12.30pm. Wear green or at least a touch of green for the Irish. Speaker/entertainment to be announced. Members are reminded that confirmation of intention to attend or not and the names of guests must be received by the relevant committee member by Friday, 17 March. FRIDAY, 26 MARCH to SUNDAY, 28 MARCH: Mountain Backpackers Club enjoys guided day hikes at Mhlopeni Nature Reserve near Greytown. At this SA natural heritage site in the Muden area, the weather may hit 0 degrees at this time of year, so wrap up warm. The self-catering camp costs R150 per person and own tent costs R80 per person. There is accommodation available. Guided hikes on Saturday and Sunday will take in the beautiful bushveld, game and prolific birdlife. Pre-booking and payment is essential. Email joy@mhlopeni.co.za for details. SOCIAL Bridge at St Mary’s every Wednesday between 8.15am and noon. New bridge members have settled in well, enjoying the challenge of the game in a relaxed, social atmosphere.
